8 Life Lessons from Naruto

I was in grade 11 and, it was summer break when I started watching Naruto because my brother had suggested it to me. It was more of a time pass for me. But as the episodes went by, I got into it. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden was not just entertainment for me anymore. I got a chance of bonding with my brother by discussing the anime with him after each episode. After years of fighting as kids, Naruto helped us have a decent conversation without holding down each other’s throat. Apart from this, there is a lot the anime/manga teaches one about life.

Here are a few of them:

Never give up – I can go on and on about this. Many characters in Naruto can be taken as an example for this lesson like Rock Lee and Guy Sensei. But, I would like to highlight on Naruto here. He wasn’t very good at jutsus yet he trained hard for the shadow clone jutsu, rasengan and the sage mode. Naruto worked hard to achieve his dream of becoming the Hokage and, he never gave up on it. Also, he never gave up on his friends, especially Sasuke.

Friendship – Naruto treasured every friend of his. He knew how it felt to be lonely and, that helped him to make sure no one felt that way. Naruto would do anything to protect his friends. He valued them a lot and trusted them to help him when he needed it as well. Isn’t that a real strong foundation of friendship?

Bonds – Apart from friendship, Naruto taught an important lesson of bonding with people. There were many people he met along the way in the series and, it was due to his attitude towards them that made them believe in Naruto. He created bonds for life and, this was one of the main reasons why there were so many people who joined forces together for the final war.

Craziness – You don’t have to be serious all the time. Keep the child in you alive by doing crazy things with your friends or to annoy them a little. Be it the fun nature of Jiraiya or the sexy jutsu of Naruto, those two stole our hearts, whenever they were together.

Love – Hinata taught us one can endure any amount of pain to protect the one you love. It moved us to tears seeing her protect Naruto from Pain. Sakura is another example. She loved Sasuke right from the beginning and never gave up on him. She wanted to see him happy and not fall to the evil side. Let us not forget the love Itachi Uchiha had for his brother that he killed his whole clan to protect Sasuke.

Kindness – Naruto was alone as a kid and envied how everyone had families around him. This didn’t stop him from being kind to people he met (even if they were the villains). He showed that kindness can move even the stone-hearted. Naruto’s kindness and strong will helped Gaara turn into a better person. He heard Nagato’s side of the story and told him he won’t stop believing that the world can be a better place.

Sensei’s like Family – All the sensei’s shown in Naruto were amazing and served a purpose. Iruka sensei was there with Naruto right from the beginning and, their bond showed that they considered each other as family. Kakashi sensei learnt from the mistakes of his past and was a cool teacher to Team 7. He wanted to protect them and, he learnt a lot from them along the way. It is needless to say, but we all felt bad when Asuma sensei died and said his final words to Team 10. Let’s not forget how Shikamaru took down an Akatsuki member all by himself. It showed the love the students had towards their teacher.  There are many great sensei’s to talk about in Naruto but one final worthy mention would be Guy sensei. He helped Rock Lee as he knew what it felt like to only rely on Tai Jutsus.

Trouble – If you have watched Naruto, you know that there is always trouble around the corner. The anime depicts how the world isn’t as good as we think it is. There are war, evil people and the death of loved ones. However, the anime showed us that sometimes, we just have to put on a brave fight.

So, these are just a few lessons that I got from the top of my head. It’s been almost four years since I watched it and it sure does bring back memories. Thank you, Masashi Kishimoto, for creating Naruto.
If you feel like there is anything you learnt, please share it with me as well in the comments.
